Questions about a 327 block.

I found an old 327 long block.(FREE) I have searched for as much info as I can find but I still have a few questions on some odd things on this block.

Heres the info I have so far.
Block casting #. 3903352. 65-67 327ci 210-275hp pass car only block. 2 bolt main, SM journal crank and rods, Steel crank.

Heads. 461's with no bolt holes. No biggie. :rolleyes:

Now on to the questions:
1. These is a "can" mounted in the lifter valley attached to the rear wall of the valley. What is this? Is this some type of early PCV?

2. There is a "plug" in the rear of the block near/next the oil pressure sending unit. It about 1 1/4 in dia.

3. This block has a "2 step oil pan" It comes down from the front seal and curves back about 7in and dips down about 2in. then back about 5in then down to the sump......It looks like a stock stamped pan.(never seen anything like it)

4. There is a "lever" mounted to the bell housing bolts on the drivers side of the block. The top of the lever looks as if it lines up with the carb but the bottom side looks as if it line up with the trans? early trans kick down for a powerglide?

I'm still searching google but I really dont know the correct name for these parts so its come to asking for help from y'all.

the "can" is the old road draft tube set up.

old blocks did not have oil psi sending units by the oil filter it was on the back of the block behind the intake flange.

sounds like a stock oil pan for an impala.

would be the glide linkage.

Update: 11/8/10

Got it tore down today.
Bore is .040 with a good cross hatch still showing. :)

Pistons. Decompression type maybe 12cc dish. CAST :(

Steel crank. .010/.010. :) Rod and main bearings look very good.

Cam. Unknown, No #'s of any kind of markings on it.

Heads. Like I said 461's. 1 ex valve is sitting ALOT lower in the head than the others, Does not look like any hardened seats have been installed. :(

All in all I think it may be a good project for a later date or it may become trade fodder.

sounds good, put it back together with new rings and bearings, have the heads fixed up a bit and go have fun.

The can in the lifter valley can be removed, if the there is a plug (metal frost plug) at the back of the block where the old draft tube was placed. You must the use a 350 style pcv valve (try a 1968 327 pcv valve from your auto supplier) in one valve cover and a vent in the other. Like the old 350's had.

There was an old GM conversion kit which is not available any more.

This was used with a push on breather cap on the filler tube at the front of the intake.
