Could you please start off by telling us some more details about the yr of your 305.A distributor change is going to be needed.
Any old chevy HEI should do fine, takes only 1 12V wire to make them run. Also going to need to get rid of the high pressure fuel pump and replace it with a low pressure, or install a regulator that can handle that much of a pressure drop. Then of course a carb and intake to replace what's on the engine now....
Hey Dave,he's putting in the 305 into a older truck that doesn't have a in tank fuel pump and not just a carb change on a truck that has the in tank fuel pump.I am thinking depending on the yr of the engine would determine if the engine block has casting for a push rod for a mechanical pump. Not sure about that through.
Yep--if he doesn't have the fuel pump boss AND hole for the pushrod he'll have to do an electric pump along with the carb and manifold and hei
some blocks have the boss but aren't drilled for the pump rod.
Also---flywheel / flexplate will be needed to match the 305
and also---front belt drive----some engines (tahoe, etc) the accessory package was pretty well arranged vertically and vets/camaros were fender to fender--if switching from serpintine to standard v belts will need a normal rotation water pump
He`ll also need to buy the correct intake manifold for it to match up with the bolt pattern, no heat riser ports.
The 305 is out of a 92-94 caprice classic.. The 69's full tank has been moved inside the frame rails underneath the bed behind the rearend... i think it has an electric fuel pump... i will check on that tomorrow... all the fuel lines are still there.. along with the water pump, power steering pump and pulleys from the 350 that was in it. trani turbo350.. i have all the accessories with the 305. i am not using the a/c condenser or the smog pump.. i aslo have the fly wheel with the 305 and torque converter are they useless. what is HEI
Look at the four center manifold bolts, two on each side of intake, are they at a differant angle compared to the rest of them....?
