Exclamation Need suggestions on a cam for a 327

Im just started rebuilding a small block 327 for my 1984 chevy s-10. Right now it has a 350 in it but I've been planning on building a mean 327 for it. Well I have a complete 327 bored .030 over minus the heads, cam and intake. Now the block and everything are in excellent condition but it doesnt have a cam or heads. I just really wanted to get a few suggestions on a cam for it. I dont want the most high performance cam out there but I do want it to have a nasty idle and lope to it. Any ideas?

Yep, got lots of ideas. Will the motor have to run on pump gas?

Oh yea Im ready to rock an roll. The only problem with the money is that I wont have it all at once. Ill be able to put a little under $200 at the most a week towards parts because thats all Ill have to spare. Every other week or so Im caught up on bills so Ill have more to put towards it. Im definatly willing to spend the money to make it romp. Ill probably be using an automatic transmission. I currently have a th350 in my truck now on a 350. I've always wanted to build a nasty 327 so come at me with some good ideas to build a roller motor and Ill do it.

I run the Comp Cams 280/480 cam and its a hoss. I run a Tremec 5 speed TKO with 3.43 posi out back with Vortec heads and headers. I love to hear it scream!
Running an automatic you will need a loose converter and good rearend gears.
The Comp Cams 268 is a good place to start.

Are you planning on driving this every day, if so I would go with a little smaller cam.
Also are you looking for a hydrolic or a roller cam?
If your gonna run Hydrolic I reccomend a Erson TQ 30.
It's got a exccelant lopy sound to it and turns everyones head when you pull in.
But it also has lots and lots of tourque to about 6,000 RPM's.
You could run about a 2500 stall which will make it more streetable for every day driving.
Ask Pat McCarthy he sell's Erson cams and deals with them all the time plus he is a chevy guy. I had lots of so called performance street cams and that cam was the best all around great sounding street cam I ever had. Awsome fun with great dependability.

Think were you really want to be at with your Compression Ratio . Gas Price's are said to go way up . That could really cut down on your Driving time . I am building a 327 for my car and now I have changed my build From a 10.5.1 to a 9.25.1 C/R . The 270H Comp Cam is always over Looked . That Camshaft would Work well in a 9.25.1-9.50.1 C/R 327 and be more Street Friendly but still make good Power .

All I want to do is build it to where it has a real deep lope and perform well under regular driving. I dont want to build it for the strip. Whats rpm range should I shoot for? I want to hear some opinions

X2 from me on the comp cam 270H and a lower compression ratio. This week I saw a guys at a Hess gas station add a additive to his gas tank on his hot rod.Thought to my self what a pain that must be on a long rod run.Or maybe because of that he can't take a trip with it.

That Erson cam is a deep lopy cam with great street performance.
It is hydrolic cam though, I didn't see if you wanted Hydrolic or roller.
The TQ 30 pulls so hard from about 2,500 to 6,000 you'll have to pull
your head out of the back seat when you stop. You don't have to
advance it or retard it, either. Just set it TDC and go, Best street cam
I ever ran. But run anywere from 9.5 to 11.0 to 1 compression with
headers and a duel plan intake with at least a 650 carb.

Here is That TQ 30 Camshaft . Not sure if they still Grind it . Mid Lift Lot's of Lobe Center has a Built in 6deg Advance . Camshaft Spec's not to far off from the G.M L-82 Camshaft .

Fair idle and fuel efficiency. Strong mid-range performance. Works best with 4-barrel,
headers, 4-speed manual transmission and low gears.

    2,750- E113221 310° IN 226° IN .462" IN 114° Lobe Center 6° Advance
    5,750 TQ30H 310° EX 226° EX .462" EX
