canister filter help
Going back to the canister filter as the spin on adapters suck. ( they always leak). Is there supposed to be an adapter inside where the canister bolts onto the block? Guys have told me that all there is, is a canister, filter, large bolt, and gasket. No bypass adapter. The eng is a 1966 283. Thanks for any help.

My 283 took a spin on filter, the filter boss was right on the block with a threaded nipple in the middle - IIRC

Never ever had a problem, are you using the factory spin on adapter off of a later model small block or aftermarket stuff. If your using aftermarket,I would go to the salvadge yard and pull one off any small block chevy. Those old canister filters are a pain in the arse.

The later model small block adapters will not work for the early model 283/327 blocks. I just tried the canister without the adapter and it seems to work ok. Thanks for the replies.
