hey im just curious what my horsepower and torque might be... i've got a sbc350 the block is a 97 but the heads are decked 85 heads, bored .40 over compression is 9 to 1, cam specs are I:222 dur E: 230 dur I:509 lift E:528, ive got the edlebrock air gap intake manifold, Q-jet carb, and an HEI distributor. this is my first build so im kinda curious .. feel free to give your opinion on where i went wrong.. thanks in advance for the help
Is it a gen I block, LS, LT, vortech? Roller cam? I would say 300hp/285ft.lbs. at the crank. But I'm just guessing!
roller cam, and it was a vortec block...
Well that'll make power better than an old skool block. I'm don't know much about Q-Jets, but with that block, freshened up you should be at aroun 350hp 300ft.lbs at the crank.
Comp Cam selection simulator says 350 hp and 400 torque.
I have found this application to be a bit on the high side.
Maybe 325 hp and 350 torque.
Alot depends on the headers and exhaust
its the same cam thats in the GM ZZ383 .... the heads arent anything special... shaved 85 heads. other than that, stock specs. exhaust is stock exhaust manifolds then 3 in the rest of the way back with a flowmaster super 40 muffler. should i spend the extra bucks and get some new heads? and i hear that air gap intake manifold is pretty generic?? not much better than stock... is this true? thanks for the guesses, i appreciate it! keep em coming!
I've heard pretty godd things about the Air Gap. The dual plane manifold will give you better low end and midrange power, which will be better to drive around town with. But new heads are Always a good investement. Even New cast Iron heads will improve your power up to 50hp/50ft. lbs.
wow really? i didnt know that ... well ill be looking at getting some new heads then... any suggestions on a brand name that makes a good well built head?
also ive got a 700R4 behind this engine... its not going into the the overdrive drive??? ive got 1st 2nd D but the D with the box around it doesnt work?? any suggestions there would be much appreciated!! tranny is full on oil... but i think i may have done something stupid when i put dex merc in the tranny instead of dexron 2 stuff that it calls for on the dip stick... is this bad??

No rush to change your trans fluid like yesterday, dex/merc is basically "compatible" with dex2, but do have it looked at by a trans pro if it is not behaving - they will probably want to change your fluid and filter thoughQuote:

The heads will depend on your price range. You're gonna have to make a phone call and talk with a techy to make sure you get the correct ones for your build. But somethin along the lines of 195cc int runner, 2.02/1.60 valves. They should have a .600" lift max, which is where the techy comes in, there's ALOT invovled in choosing heads.
A good place to start is the GM Vortech Heads, the only thing is you'll need a diff intake to match these heads.
