any help on this would be great,i have a chance to build either a clone 302 or a 327,the 302 would not be like the the first side winding 302 from 67 to 69,going with just flat top 4 valve relief,smooth idled cam,the 327 has 11-1 compression with 462 heads,i have parts to build either or either motor ...both motor's are one of my favourite,so i'm rely caught in the middle,and help or your opinion would be awesome on witch way to go,and any help thanks for reading god bless,:confused::(:HMMM:
if you got a small main journal block build the 302 just for the heck of it .see how high it will rev ...
I would go with the 327 Build it will have more useable Low end Torque . And them 11.1 Pistons are more Like 10.5.1 C/R with 64cc Heads . In a Light Car with a Big Gear and a Manual Trans or High Stall Speed . A High Reving 302 can be built to run Low E.T's
302 with flattops wont be so good, but with some mini domes it would be good. id go with the 327 in this instance because of the higher compression unless you have pistons for the 302
I would think it might depend on what you are going to use it for.

I am running a Chevy 302 in my 914. Great revver and matches the car perfectly. Of course the car is a simdge over 2000 pounds and geared to rev high.
For a street car that is heavier, a 327 is probably better. The 302 has zero torque down low, which is why I chose it, my gearbox will not hold up. The 327 is a good combination of revs and torque, but the 302 is good for the wow factor, or if you feel like arguing with people all the time about weather or not Chevy built a 302. The 302 will be a it more pricey to build as well, the pistons are not cheap.

I have ran both the 302 and 327..I am still running a 327 in a chevelle
for past 12 yrs, however I have seen some fast built 302's at the track.
The 327 will produce more torque, and a 327 can be a high-revving engine too if it is built correctly, so I would definitely choose the 327 over the 302.
,thanks allot for all your help and input.. i do appreciate all the help ,....what ever motor i go with 302 or 327will be going into a 67 rs camaro with 200r4...,as this is the first one i have ever done,and i don't rely have the money to do trial and error with parts.i have to try to some what get it close the first time,or i think the wife is going shot me lol. thanks again for all the help....marry christmas
If you are planning on running a 2004R, then I would re-emphasize the need for a 327. A 302 will be a dog. A 302 performs best when you can rev it to 7000 rpm. You need low rpm torque which a 327 would give you. A 350 would be even better, but since your choice is 302 or 327, then I can guarantee you would be much happier with the performance of a 327. Now if you were going to be running a manual transmission, a 302 could be a lot of fun.
there is a reason you could not order a 302 camaro with an automatic, this is why i am switching to a 4 speed.
hey everyone thank you all for the info,and sorry it took so long to get back ,family stuff ,so go with a 327 ,or if i'm running a 4 speed muncie transmission or something like that i can have some fun with a 302,this is for a 67 camaro ,can't remember but i think the rear end is 4'tens or 4'15 i counted on the tier 4 /14 i think,......thanks to eveyone well appreciated
