VI 129 B.. In a 68 Chevy truck... Anyone got any ideas???
sure it is a V? There is a UI code listed as a 1969 Chevy
truck 307 with 200 hp powerglide and 2bbl carb
I thought it was a V but I'll look tomorrow.. It has the small 2 barrell carb and intake so I thought it might be a 307. has a 3 speed saginaw behind it.
It's definitely a V
The only two V codes that contained two letters and ever used by Chevy are VB and VP, both are related to models of 1969 350 truck engines
Does it have side mounts
There is also a YI which is a 65-66 327 truck application with a stick shift in a 60Series body.....a 2 ton truck.
There is no single letter Y code OR any three letter Y codes
It's a VI for sure... It does have side mounts. It has a tiny balancer like a 283. Looks like a bit of a mixed bag but it's complete and runs good. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...tctush2007.jpg
Interesting - 1968 was the first year that Chevy went to spin on filters and the oil fill tube left the manifold and went to the valve covers. Trucks sometimes became the "red-headed step child" and GM used up existing stock of parts. It is not as uncommon as you think to have some parts interchanged on what would appear to be a factory assembled unit. I am personally aware of a brand new 1968 truck that the window sticker indicated was a 327, 2 barrel when it was in reality a quad. The new owner was a close family friend and she always thought her truck was a bit "snappier" than the '65 she had traded in!
Short of tearing into it - you may have a "mystery motor".. But hey, it runs good - so clean 'er up and let's see a few more pictures!
