I stripped my 355 today to bring it to the machine shop to have the cam bearings changed. Since all the other bearings looked pretty good I was wondering if they could just be put back in? I will more than likley replace them w/ new but could i reuse them if I wanted to (Im really cheap!).
well while you got the engine down this far. you might as well put some new bearings in it and maybe some new rings. but yes you can put the used ones in. but if it was me i would get new rings and bearings and put in.

I would just mic the crank and if it's in spec, replace the bearings.
thanks for thinking ahead for my next question! I was wondering if the rings would reseat themselves if all i did hone the cylinders to break the glaze? Before the tear down the engine only had a leak down of 4-6 %. All this started w/ a simple cam change.
Thats allways the way things Start.:LOL: When I started my galxie all I was gonna do was replace the exhaust and the freeze plugs next thing I know its at the shop being punched to 40 over and the dude at summit said well this cam is as large as we recomend with a stock tourq converter.Quote:

I say while the engine is out replace all the berings and rings just to do one less thing latter who wants to dive back into an engine two months latter cause somthing silly happend.
