    2 carbs vs. Dominator...

     



    For you knowledgeable old school racers, I have a question. I know it may be opinion, but I'm trying to get the best possible input to decide which way to go. I have a 2600 lb. Vega going very low 10's @ 133 mph with a 409 c.i. small block, using 2 660 Holley center squirters on an edelbrock tunnel ram. I have sitting on the shelf, a super victor intake, with an adapter to accommodate the Quick Fuel 1150 cfm carb on it. This combination worked well on a similar motor ( 421 c.i.) in a 3100 lb. Chevy 2. It ran 10:30's @ 132 mph. Would it be reasonable to assume the Dominator combo would improve my times if I replaced the 2 carbs with it, on the Vega. The adapter for the Dominator that I am using is not the cheap one.....it has about 3" height and doesn't leak. Also...I have been some "loading up" problems with the 2 carbs. While they give you great throttle response, I'm not sure that they are really doing the job on this motor. Thanks for all/ any input.

    Lots of other considerations I'm sure....But I much prefer getting the tuneup correct and adjusting for track and weather conditions on 1 big Dominator instead of 2 little carbs.....


    With 2 carbs, might not have time for important things during the course of a day at the drags like cooking burgers, bs'n with the guys, checkin' out the chicks, etc. etc........

    I'm leaning towards making the swap....I guess the only way to determine how it affects the performance, is to try it. Who has time for cooking burgers???

    Two carbs are probably faster, one carb will be more consistent. That's the way it usually works.

    I just tested the car after switching from the tunnel ram with 2 660's to a 1150 Quick Fuel......the best run with the 2 carbs was 10:15 @ 133 mph. With the 1150, I went 10: 16 @ 136 mph. Not much difference, but the track was very slippery last night....almost lost it twice. I suspect it will run a little quicker....maybe 10:00 when it hooks.
