That's what I thought. Now I just need to figure out how to make the rear end handle it and I'll be ready to start buying stuff. I was finally able to get in touch with a buddy of mine that builds engines and he is going to help me with that so I shouldn't have to bother ya'll with that part of it anymore. Lol
Ok, I picked the motor up yesterday. The guy told me that I needed to pull one of the main caps off and put a freeze plug in or it won't have any oil pressure. Is this true? The pistons have two valve reliefs in them. The guy wasn't sure if they went to the top or bottom of the motor. Which way do they go? Also, do the locks for the bearings on the rod and main caps go together? Do the locks face outward when the rods are in the motor?
What your are saying is not making a lot of sense to me because your terminology is inaccurate. I would highly advise you to take your block and parts to an experienced sbc mechanic and have him assemble the short block for you. If you want to know how to assemble a small block, ask him if you can watch. You don't want to screw up an newly rebuilt engine by making novice mistakes.
I have an experienced builder helping me now. He's never heard of a freeze plug under one of the main caps either.
it not a freeze plug it is a oil galley plug it is under the rear main cap and is about 7/16 or so plug and is set in to the block about 1 inch in a well if left out you will not have any oil psi. if you look down the top of the block were the 1/8 npt oil sender port the plug is on the other end of this oil galley so if you run a wire rod thru the oil sender port to check or see were the plug will go some of the newer block use a ball brearing and not a metal plug
Ok thanks a lot. He told me it wouldn't have any oil pressure if I didn't put the plug in it. He said it was a freeze plug though, that's what threw me off.
I found a set of Brodix heads, roller rockers, rocker stud girdle, pushrods, roller cam and lifters, intake, msd box and nitrous controller for 1500 dollars. I think I'm going to jump on that.
$1500 will get you a brand new set of AFR 195 heads--the best flowing heads on the market. Buyer beware.
Yea but I'm getting a set of Brodix RacRite heads, comp cams roller cam and lifters, pushrods, roller rockers, rocker stud girdle, oil pan, super victor intake, msd ignition and nitrous controller all for 1500. This top end package on another flat top 383 pushed a 3200 lb car to a 6.8x 1/8th mile pass.
Can you post the specs or the number of the cam?
