    305tbi/350tbi conversion. computer too?

     



    You guys are so good, I have another question. In the process of converting a stock 305tbi truck to earley 350tbi. (modifing the 305 manifold to use on the earley heads). Do you think the computer on the stock 305 truck will run ok on the 350 application or should I grab a used computer from a truck with a stock 350tbi?
    Also, will the stock 305 tbi supply enough fuel sitting atop an earley 350?

    someone told me there could be a problem using a cam with the tbi. we put in the edelbrock 2102 for (86 and older) maybe I should have used the 3702 for 87 and newer TBI. Here are the specs on the two camshafts from edelbrock's site. Remember I'm going to go with the TBI. Think we'll have a problem?

    ENGINE: CHEVY 265-350 V8
    RPM RANGE: 1500-5500

    1. Duration at 0.006" Lift: Intake: 278° Exhaust: 288°
    Duration at 0.050" Lift: Intake: 204° Exhaust: 214°
    Lift at Cam: Intake: 0.280" Exhaust: 0.295"
    Lift at Valve: Intake: 0.420" Exhaust: 0.442"
    Timing at 0.050" lift: Open Close
    Intake: 5° ATDC 29° ABDC
    Exhaust: 44° BBDC 10° BTDC
    Centerlines: Lobe Separation - 112° Intake Centerline - 107°



    CAUTION: Use Performer-Link Timing Chain and Gear Set, #7800. Do not use late model timing sets. They are machined in a retarded position and are not recommended for this camshaft installation. Edelbrock Performer-Link True Rolling Timing Sets feature three keyways for specific timing selection. Always use the “0” or straight-up timing mark when installing Performer-Plus camshafts with Performer-Link Timing Sets.

    Use only Sure Seat Valve Springs, #5802 or 5902 Use stock ratio rocker arms only

    most of the difference is in the intake side, the olde style has a little more lift, and little bit bigger #'s on the duration. and intake timing. Think we better change cams?

    I did that swap for a buddy, the 305 computer worked OK. An "expert" talked him into reprogramming the computer, cost him some cash and didn't make a bit of difference. Don't know about the camshaft issue, sorry.

    The computer won't know the difference between the 305 and the 350. It'll work fine. The cam is pretty small and on a 112 lobe separation. I don't think you'll have any troubles with it.
