I have no clue what the engine and tranny that are in my car are worth. I'm taking them out and replacing them with a 302.
The 350 is not all that special. It's been rebuilt and has about 3500-4000 miles on it. It has a new high torque starter, and the valve covers and air cleaner are chrome. Overall the engine is clean. The 350 turbo tranny was rebuilt last summer.
What would be a fair asking price for the combo?
Always a tough one to answer. If you could pull back on your reins a bit and try to sell it while it's still in the car so you can demonstrate how well they work you'll do better on the price. Otherwise you end up like the other 100 or so people in your area advertising "ran good when removed". If a used engine is sitting on the floor IMHO it's worth core value, which in my area is around $100-150, maybe more if I can open it up and inspect it for good or bad signs. If it's demonstrated to be a good runner, maybe $500. Pretty much the same story for the trans. Core is $75-100 here, good running used $2-300.
Ditto - you may want to check Craig's list or ebay for your area.

I've been offered $1000 for the combo, so I guess I better take it and run.....

Save them for a chevy build. Its a good excuse to build another car or truck.
Hmmm.. wait for scrap prices to go up? That means the 460 at 720 pounds would be worth more than say a 454 at 685 pounds?

If your going to sell it video the heck out of it before you have it pulled . Doing drive by's while taping and of it running at idle . Rev it up and let them see it this way . It will confirm it was a runner and you just decided change was in the future.
If you can get a grand, jump on it! I just bought a decent running 79 model 350 off of Craigslist for $100 and a good TH-350 for $75. Or do what Flipper said, put it in the corner and wait for another project to pop up. A good running SBC is always a good thing to keep around.Quote:
