parts list. what you think?

hey guys, a friend reccomended me here. been doing a little bit of reading the last couple days so i thought what the heck!

ok, 400 sbc, 2 bolt mains, machine work still in process, im just going through parts lists. this will be driven on the street, pump gas. 91 octaine is highest around here. vortec heads are going to go on for the time being untill enough money is saved up for afr 76cc, 210's. cam is still in the air. any suggestions? not worried on milage, just want power, with pump gas. will possibly see occasional nitrous just 125-150 shot. then after afrs are installed, then a turbo is in the plans.

trans 700r4, 410's , 2500 stall, in a 48 chevy pickup. 3750 lbs with full tank of gas.

heres what ive come up with.

Probe SRS 9.96:1 w/ 64cc, 8.92:1 w 76cc, INV Dome, SB Chevy 400 (4.155 bore) 3.750 Stroke, For 6.0" rods
OR..
400 w/ 6.0" Rods, -26.58cc Step Dish Keith Black Forged Pistons compression ratio's- 9.5, 64 cc 8.6 76cc

suggestions on rings?

what would the 3.850 crank get me? its the same price as this one

they say 700 hp rating on these, and they are pretty cheap!

bearings? any preference?

cam? choice?

carb? 750? 800? holley preferebly.

distributer, stock HEI with flamethrower internals.

Welcome aboard booboo... I'm not the sbc expert (or any expert for that matter) but there are many really sharp and very experienced people here.

On the carb unless you're planning to wing this motor over 6000rpm a 750cfm will be enough but an 800 would be better if you're spending any time over 6000rpm. For a heavy truck with low stall, you'll want vacuum secondaries (not a double pumper)... I'm a holley guy but "they" say the edelbrock/carter's are more street friendly.

If you'll be using any of this power, the 700R4 could be a weak link unless it has been gone through and beefed up, what do you have for a rear end?. A corporate 10-bolt could suffice but I would lean toward a 12-bolt if you can get it especially if you're spraying.

As for the engine/cam particulars I'll defer to the experts but I think you could get away with a bit more compression... I ran an iron headed BBC at 10.2:1 with 42* of timing lead on 91 octane but I have an "advantage" of high altitude... Aluminum heads will allow even more compression. What is your altitude? I imagine it's up there at least a couple thousand feet if you can only get 91....

Cam and stall will depend on what you want to do with the truck... fun cruiser with a few street light contests or more extreme fast as I can go on pump gas.... I guess with the no2 you can have the best of both :LOL:
