timing...
ok ok... timing my buddies vett'. nothin special 350 882 heads, cam, 0010. bracket master II lunati. 292, 230 @ .050 480/480. idle timing was all the way up to 18, when "all in" timing set at 34*. this is where it runs the best. i didnt think it was possible to be that far off? something wrong?

Just the usual, is it the correct timing pointer for the balancer, has the outer ring on the harmonic balancer slipped??? A quick check is to pull #1 plug, run the piston to TDC and make sure the timing pointer and the mark on the balancer are lined up...

what kind of distributor? might be it needs re-curved with different sized bushing... only getting 16* of lead from idle doesn't seem like much... what is idle rpm? If it's high it could be you already have some advance in at idle.

accell HEI. nothing done to it. idle is set up around 850-900.

I think it should drop back at least 20*. Sounds like you've got some advance already in at idle. Springs too light? Some HEIs are set up to bring in 5-6* as early as 900 RPM. Light weight springs can bring in timing as low as 500 RPM.
