327 Sbc Help Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am buildin a motor for my 67 vette, i have bored the motor .030 over and bought 10.5:1 Speed Pro pistons and i have stock camel back heads with 64cc heads and i wanted some help on a cam to choose. whats a good brand and what size. The car has a 2 speed powerglide in it and i still havnt choose waht ize torque converter i might use. The ccar has sat in the garage for bout 18 years and im tryin to get it on the road for the woodward dream cruise in 4 weeks... so if anyone could help me out this would be greatly appreciated.

Since you want to cruise the car I would look at the blueprint grinds Crane offers and use the L-79 327 350HP cam.

Hi,and welcome to the forum. I don't know if I would have picked that high of a compression ratio for a cruiser with todays gas,93 octane probably won't be high enough. You may need to swap heads and get that ratio back to 9 or 9 and a half to one. You might be able to squeak by with very careful cam selection and for that I would talk directly with the manufacturer of your choice. Hope this helps you, Hank

My first thought is that this could be the Woodward Nightmare Cruise for you. Your combination is all wrong for a street motor. The c.r. is too high for pump gas with iron heads, even with a longer cam in my opinion. You probably haven't given any thought to squish either....or the fact that with a longer cam to try to bleed off some of the dynamic c.r., you'll need a loose converter that isn't going to lock up at cruising speeds and will build a tremendous amount of heat. In my opinion, it's just all wrong.

With today's available fuels and iron heads, I would have chosen 9.0:1 static compression ratio with 0.035" to 0.040" squish and a short cam with a tighter converter that would work well in a cruise motor. Just my opinion.

I like JEFFB2 cam choice. I have similar in my "corvette close" sbc but I am only running 9.5 so the other guy's comments on compression ratio are important. FYI for thiose interested in Woodward Dream Cruise : Thurs is great fun traffic flows fast. Many car arrive early. Lots of cars to see. Friday starts to jam up. By Fri afternoon, street is filled but moving. Mostly due to the non classic cars wanting to be in the flow. This starts forcing the Dream cars to park and we have only get to see 1 of 3 cars of special interest. Since it is a city street, nothing can be done about this. Sat is mostly a dead stop. 1 hour per traffic light! Make sure you have done everything you can for stop and go driving or just park it as we were forced to do.

so i should get different pistons? is what your saying? or even buy a running 350 from somone? and call it a day so i can just get the car on the road and worry about building my motor when i have more money and time.

Check again on them Speed Pro Pistons . The only way you could get 10.5.1+ C/R is if you have the .125" domed Pistons with your 64 cc Heads . With Flat Top Pistons your Just over 9.5.1 C/R . Go with the EX262H camshaft . You will also need a 2800 Stall Speed . Or better yet a TH-350 and a stall speed . Your Corvette may have a 3.55 Gear stock .

i found the set of heads that came off the block i have and what i have are 3876775....60-67...283/327......75cc chamber
will those work?

Do you also Have a Set of the camel hump Fuelly Heads Like you Talked about in the First Post ? The #3876775 Heads have Small 1.72 in Valves . Also at Best with Thin .015" Head gaskets 75cc Chambers and Flat top pistons . you will have 8.75.1 C/R . That C/R is ok but the 1.72 in Valves will really cut down your HP . This Corvette sound Like it's not a #-matching Car . Are you just Looking to make it a Hot Rod ? And what Kind of Budget are you on ? You may be best to buy a New set of Heads . I think the World S/R Torquer heads with the 67cc Chambers 1.94in / 1.50 ex Valves would be the ones for your Car . They also make them with 2.02 in / 1.60 ex Valves . But with that powerglide trans you will not want to kill your bottom end torque . If you have Fuelly Heads that are in Good shape Run Them .

Good advice Tango! Run the Comp Cams XE262 is a really good choice. I run it in a 327 with vortec heads, headers, edelbrock performer intake with a Q jet. Runs fine and last a long time. Good luck with your build and cruise.

i took the heads in today, they are the 75cc heads with the .1250 domed pistions. virtual engine calculator said it would be bout 9.45:1 and the guy at the machine shop said i should use a thumper cam with some z28 springs.
and i want to sell those camelhump heads casting #3782461 62cc chamber. can somebody tell me what they are worth

That C/R sounds Right to me . But I would still go with that XE262H camshaft . First you should have 10.1 C/R or more for them Thumper Camshafts . Also you will kill all your Low end Torque with that Thumber Camshaft . And with that Power-Glide Trans you will not want to do that . The 75cc Heads that you did Talk about will need to have the 1.94 in Valves installed . The Z/28 Springs will work Fine Good to 490" Lift . You will also need screw in studs installed . As For a Price on the #461 Fuelly Heads ? Rebuilt set $500.00 Need Rebuilt $200.00 .

No you have a 301 . And We will get that engine running 11s :cool:

i just bought a 350 off craigs list for 500 from intake to pan, just a stock rebuild. what a good mild cam to put in so i get some pep out of the motor???

you can make that 327 run 9's stick with it.

What Year 350 ? #s on Block and What # Heads ? I am thinking it was a Good running engine that you just want to change out the camshaft and Springs .
