Hi Group!im Ready To Button Up The Bottom End On My 383 Stroker.my Question Is ,is There A Plug Under The Rear Main Cap That Has Something To Do With Oil Pressure And Filter Bypass?? A Lingenfelter Book I Looked In Says There Is A Small Soft Plug That Goes In Under The Rear Main Cap And If You Dont Put It In You Will Have Pressure Problems.is This True And Where Does This Plug Go?thanks For Looking!
What year is your block? Is it stock or aftermarket? Possible, the soft plug I used went in the area where you screw the filter on. It blocked off the bypass so that all the oil gets filtered.
there is a plug on all sbc that if you do not put it in you will have no oil pressure it is under the rear main cap with block up .it is on the right side down one hole 1 down or so. is for oil going in and out of oil fillter
Pat,that Sounds Like The One In Question. If Your Looking At The Block Upsidedown,with The Main Cap Off,on The Right Side Of The Crank There Is A Soft Plug Inserted 1 Level Under The Block Surface.let Me Try Again,the Plug That Is Inserted Is Not On The Surface But Through The Surface Hole A Couple Inches Down In Line With The Top Hole.i Wasnt Sure If The Plug In Question Was Put In The Hole On The Surface Or Was Down In The Hole.the Block Is A 78 Driver Side Dipstick,4 Bolt Main Stock Chevy Block.thanks!!
bottom up on the right side same side the oil filter s on and not flush but down a 1 or so the hole feed hole next to the main cap bolt

Looking At The Picture,the Hole On The Right Is The Hole Above The One The Plug Goes In,at Least Thats Where The Machinist Put Mine,and The One On The Right In The Picture Stays Open.i Did A Lotta Talkin For Such A Simple Question,thanks For Taking Time To Help!rather Be Safe,not Sorry!!!
