    Vortec heads what else

1977 Chevy Stepside 3000lb 342 gears 700r4 350 with Vortec Heads 64cc with 1.94 intake and 1.50 exhaust valves. These also have .500 lift springs,3/8 screw in rocker studs,Comp long slot 1.5 rocker arms with poly locks, and Isky guide plates. No cam yet or intake I can use 8 bolt or twelve on these heads. Horsepower the most without blowing it up 650 Edelbrock new carb. I will boost the compression up if it helps to acheive higher ponies. This is an older block 1969 010 two bolt. It has the original camel humps on it now. Choices comments and suggestions welcome. Use it on the track why not its only fun.

    Thanks Roy

I am thinking this is a 350-30 over Flat top piston short block . And I hope it has good rod bolts ? Now with your 342 gear thats ok for a street / strip build . And That 700R trans with it low first gear . This is what I think will work good . For the Camshaft the Comp Cams XE268H . It's 224/230 dur at 050 and 477/480 lift with a 110 L/S . Also use a Cloyes true roller timing set . For the Intake Manifold use the Weiand Stealth Air Strike #8502 Vortec . That 650Edelbrock carb will work good . But I think a 700 D/P Holley #4778C would be better . Also run a good HEI with a high volt coil . And some long tube 1' 5/8 headers . You should have 10.1 C/R with a 0.41 head gasket and flat tops . And your 355 should have 390 HP at 5800-RPM and 405 Torque at 3500-RPM . Put this engine together and you will have one fast Truck . COOL

    Keep your 650 Edel. carb.
The Edel. Performer EPS dual plane would be my first choice for an intake.
    I would run a Comp. Cam XE256H cam. .447/.454 lift,212/218 at .050,110 L/S.

This set up is ok for a more mild build . But your HP will be down less then 350HP . But your MPG will be better . I think the bigger Cam and better intake will be a more fun truck . COOL

    You may be right.
My biggest concern is trying to get the heavy truck to move.
I also can't think this truck weighs 3,000 lbs.
I would guess it would weigh much closer to 4,000 lbs.

Thanks guys funny how most will vary in what they like to use. Have either of you used the intake you've suggested? I've had a big block in it and it was snakey. I will go with the bigger cam that you suggested Tango I like the extreme rather then changing things again. I put the truck on a scale for the weight I should be fairly close to the weight. I've used the hot cam in an LT1 and wished I'd gone larger its just a little to quiet for me. Thanks agaiin guys for your posts.

Yes,in most of the hi-torque lower rpm builds that we do.
