I have built many Chevy 2 piece seal GEN 1 engines . But now I have a 1989 350 Chevy truck long block engine . I Want to build up the short block . The heads and TBI set up will be swaped for Vortec heads and a Dual plane carb intake . This engine has a fuel pump block off plate . And I do think it is drilled for a fuel pump rod . Are these 1 piece seal engines any good for HP Builds ?

Was this a 5.0 or a 5.7 Marine engine ? I can pick up a 350 260hp boat engine . I was not sure how and if I could use it in a car . I did use a old 327 long block out of a boat one time . It worked out ok . Thanks
Use the same ideas that you would approach the two piece Gen1 engines. Cam, carb, and head work, etc. Forged cranks are a bit more scarce but can be found with a bit or searching. I own one for use in a later project. Got it out of a C-50 truck.
Thanks for the info . I hope that this engine has a forged crank . But its a 1/2 ton with an auto trans . So I think not . Do you like the OEM roller cam set up . Or would you go with a flat tappet cam ? :)Quote:

GM has some very nice roller set ups that run very nice and have good manners. Some of the aftermarket grinds (and retros) have good tunability and can work well. Like I stated earlier, use the same attitude as you would on the early blocks. Tune it how you wish just like the old days.
Denny do you like these 1 piece SB 350s . One engine builder told me if the dip stick is not on the drivers side dont build it to race . I always liked 1976 or older SB Chevy engines .
Thanks denny for your input . I do know that shop tom said that TPI rods were strong . I now that he has built these engines . I am looking forward to his ideas on a build .
