You will be much happier with Vortec heads
I do think you are right . But I have a set of #601 heads with new S/S valves . And screw in studs with guide plales . With the Z28 springs . I am about to start porting them out. Pockets and ports . They are going on a 355 with the 8.5 C.R pistons . The engine should have around 9.75 to 1 with these 55 to 58cc heads . The cam that I am using is a Elgin hyd 216/228 dur at 0.50 and 453in 480exh lift . I still am not sure what intake I will run . I do like the Weiand steath . COOL !
Check out this engine . Its just about done . I think that I will try it out in my 1989 short bed Chevy truck . Only thing its 700R trans is on its last leg . I think that I will change the 700R out with a long tail TH350 . I was told its a bolt in . And the trucks just an around town car part hauler . This truck also will get long tube headers and true dual exhaust with turbo mufflers . And at a later date a 342 rear gear . How well do you guys think this set up will work ? To have the 700R trans rebuild its big money . And for how I use the truck . I dont think the 700R will be missed .Quote:

Don
I did some port work on the #601 305HO heads that I am going to use . But I think the max RPMs of this engine will be 5500 to 5800 . I have a #2101 Edelbrock Performer intake and a 1970 350 Chevy Q-JET that I most likely will use . When its done I may take it to the track and see how it will ET .Quote:
