Connecting rods

Maybe that's where my question marks in my head pop up with what I can and can't do , everyday I buy pistons and my choice for rotating assemblies at a price cheaper than "shelf" price. AND, I have spent too many years learning from the men who still make a small fortune making these things last under the most grueling conditions. Over thirty years ago, I learned the old school way of paying attention and studying why and how it works so my decayed brain cells from the engineering classes I had to take would have some substance and a dedicated effort in life when it comes to making these things romp, snort, stomp, and win. I'm glad you guys have a thought to put out here. We wouldn't be accomplishing a thing if everybody thought and built the same way.

yes the evey day 383 is not going to gain zip and realy think there is better places to burn money like intake headers EX

we talk long rods short rods but were is the magic number.. i'm all ears.. it's funny you say the we can't compare a 6sec drag with a dirt tracker. well i build mostly boat engines know and still don't see it with a r&r of 1.48 are you guys going lower then that to see a piston scuff problem?? what oil are you running that there's this bad of scuffing?? i have seen more of a problem running a short skirt then running a short rr i.e broken ring lands, bad sealing, piston rocking, even skirts braking because of to much rocking. i will take the piston scuffing even if it was there..

Cool response (I know it's 70's sounding) But if, And I mean "IF" there is a scuffing problemmy mind set is to find out why. The reason I push geometry so much is the fact that every effort of a rotating mass (energy) has to be effecient and worth the dollar supplied to the project. For the same amount of dollar spent to buy whatever your supplier gives you in return, I believe the best applied effort in giving your client their money's worth for longevity and no complaints on your end is worth every effort in getting the mechanism right to start with and you'll have no "bad news" to haunt you when the next guy steps up and wants the same effort and results that him/her is paying for. It pays to know how and why things work and put them to use in supplying a product that works and won't "bite" you in the end.

if they are scuff then open them bores up i would rather hear them then smell them as my freind would say

hey did any of you guy tapper turn the old trw??? i did some . i keep thinking where you want the most taper / cam ground in the skrit has alot to do with a good stable piston? not much the rod ?anyone

:eek: didn't mean to start a debate! Well, what "nitrowarrior" is saying I agree with 110% the whole geometry thought makes PERFECT sence to me. If i had the know how, that is how i would approach it.

yes i know that :rolleyes: .what i am saying take them out of the box and tapper turn from the top of the piston and stop at just past 2 ring diamond did this for me is a hot rod trick has not the cam ground skrit :D you know like this /-\

not a lot off the pistons and did this on the 12-1 pistons .and were the best place to put the cam ( ) the biggest point of measurement can be move up or down from pin centerline and how much cam put in and moved any were . with a shorter skrit it would help keep it from flopping all over
