Valve Stem Seal ?

Great advice from you all on my last post re valve stem seal replacements - I've got 1 & 6 done. But I want to check one thing before I go too much farther (being new to this and all):

I've placed the o-ring seals on the valves in the second groove (closest to the head) before compressing the spring to put the keepers back in. When I do that, it pushes the o-rings out of the groove. Is that right or should I somehow be putting the o-rings in after compressing the spring but before placing the keepers?

Compress spring, then install o-ring. It is designed to keep oil from dribbling down the valve stem through the keepers from the rocker tip when running.
