oh s&*t
that horrible colored oil, tends to have a copper colored aura about it, was doing my routine maintence b4 i was gonna take it to the track lash valves oil change etc, cut the filter open and saw the oil has a copper glitter about it. and found a chewed shim once i popped the valve cover. so i guess sh*t happens. motors coming out and getting gone through. we caught it in time before it did anything bad or made any bad sounds. thats usually a good thing. we are speculating on it just wiping a bearing or two. as the oil is not completly saturated with copper yet. just has glittery streaks. it was time for new valve springs anyways. and a new cam, carrb, intake OMG where does it end!

I feel for you, but as you said, at least you caught it now without throwing a rod thru a cylinder wall. Good excuse to make improvements too.

Bigdude...thanks for the link from Adopt A Friend For Life. We have similiar shelters here and I just aquired another friend from them. The last dog we got is now reaching the stage where I have to make a decision on putting her down. It's hard, but she deserves her peace and has served the family more than well enough for a lot of years, she's just way too old. It is always a good thing to give our "friends" another good shot at life. I have no regrets. That cat we got from the same place has been more entertainment for me and I got him for the rest of the family. Go figure. Thanks again.

I think the one's you save are thankful you did it. I have the same decision to make on one of our 6 dogs. He is pretty much blind with cateracs (sp) but only 9 years old. Of course he"s my buddy and it will be my decision.
