hi i am new here and need some advice from you guys . ok i have a hot rod with a 350 chevy non-fuel injected and i have not started it in 2 1/2 years and need some advice on what to do. i had put a fuel stabilizer in it but that was 2 1/2 years ago it has a 1/4 tank of gas in it , what precautions do i need to take before getting her going . it was a rebuilt motor with tops 1500 km put on it before i garaged it . any advice is greatly appretiated .

If it were mine I would drain all the old gas from the tank, drain the oil. New oil & Filter. Fresh gas. Make sure radiator is full. Pull the plugs give each cylinder a couple squirts of oil. Pull the hot wire to the dist. and spin it over until you get oil pressure. Put everything back together and fire it up. Warm it up a few minutes and shut it off. Check rad. & oil again. Drive ..... if all checks out o.k.
I've also let 'em set a couple years and just charged the battery & fired it up too. Never had any adverse effects either way but the cautious approach is probably better.

ok i got her going but have anotgher problem . i toke the car for a 5min drive up my street and smelt something burning so i turned her off and poped the hood and checked my tranny oil and it was dry and some fumes were comingout . do you guys think i screwed the tranny up . and can i put fluid in it without lifting the car up ie. in the dip stick tube . its a GM turbo 700 4R auto tranny .

Ouch...Yes you can put tranny fluid down the dipstick tube to fill it. That's the only way to fill a 700r4. Not really sure what to tell you about if it's hurt or not. You should most definitely pull the pan and drain as much of the old fluid out as possible, especially if the fluid that is in there looks black or smells burnt. Put a new gasket and filter in and add new fluid. Other than that, I'd say pray for the best.
If the current fluid is black or smells burnt, I hope you know a good tranny man.:CRY:
Advice for the future: Check all fluids before you depart on even an "around the block" trip. Even the brake fluid, if you can't stop you'll be in big trouble.
If an automatic tranny is way low on fluid, it won't move the car. You may have some condensation in the fluid. I would pull the pan, drain all the fluid, and change the filter. Then fill it with new fluid and try it out. I burned up a 700R4 in an Astro van when the radiator failed and the transmission sucked up radiator fluid. It smelled like burnt tires. NASTY!
Do the recommend proceedures from previous posts and think about the breather tube being plugged. Nasty little creatures may have made a nest around the port and the thing is not breathing.

thanks for the quik replys and great info . how long will it take to pull down the oil pan and can a novice do it in the driveway , and what kind of tranny fluid should i go get .
You can do the job in the driveway but obviously you will have to jack the car up and place safety stands under it. A few bolts might be under the cross member so a universal joint would come in handy, also you will need a huge oil tray to catch the oil, as it spills from the entire oil pan.
Replace the oil with Dextron III. You will need about 8 quarts.
I would like to know why mice or rats like to eat wires? And always the blue ones first.
when pulling the bolts from the pan take out a few on one side first... let her drain all she will and take a few out and keep doing that til the pan is off.... it'll be less messy that way.... i remember when i took a pan off the first time when i was 16... just undid it all, and then the gasket lost its grab and dumped a full load of tranny fluid on my face.... it took half an hour to get that off my face and a week to get it all the way from my hair
