Thread: no oil pressure after start up

Just built 383 stroker motor. When i crank over with starter 25psi pressure. after motor starts pressure drops to 0. took oil pan off rechecked everything. spun oil pump with adapter motor off 25 30 psi. HELP at wits end.

Is it an electric or mechanical gauge? Have you started it with a Valve cover off to see if oil is pumping up the push rods? How soon does the pressure drop to 0? Immediate or gradually?

It may be a stretch, but one thing I can think of is Vacuum. With just the starter there is no vacuum, with motor running there is, but still hard to believe it would suck that much oil. Any other signs of escaping oil, leaks or blue smoke?

Even when cranking with the starter, you should be close to 0 psi. I think you have a guage problem.

If you're using plastic line, make sure that it's not cracked or kinked.
