Serpentine Belt System maze

I got my 350 HO crate in and bolted on the stand. I choose to add the serpentine belt system with air because it was cheaper in the long run than to later add on air and power steering.
I hit a brick wall when I tried to bolt it on. The directions tell you to screw in this stud in the right side head, upper outside hole. The stud was labeled 6" but measures only 5.5 inches. It also was a larger size thread on one end. Directions call for a nut to go on the opposite end from the head but the four nuts won't fit the larger end of that stud.
I bought the engine from a local Chevy dealer and don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions?

Your posting wasnt clear regarding the problem but I will take a guess as to what you are finding:

The serpentine system is an aftermarket item. Your engine is a real Chevrolet engine....the heads are vortec style heads.

As I remember, the vortecs have the accessory holes tapped with a metric thread and the pattern is slightly different than older heads. Have you verifed the thread style on the bolts in your kit? I'll bet that the bolts are 3/8-16 and the heads are tapped 10mm. Also, you should make a pattern of the pattern on the heads and compare it to the pattern on the brackets....I'll bet that they are different.....

The serpentine system is a GM product and is an option with GM proformance crate engines. Like any business GM makes mistakes.
I took the shrink-wrap hardware pack back to the dealer that I bought the engine thru along with the air cond. bracket. I showed him how the stud for the bracket was at least 1/2 inch too short. He called GM and discovered that there are two packs one for air and one without air. They sent me the one for without air. All the hardware in both packs are identical except for this one particular stud which is 6" for the bracket with air and 5.5" for the bracket without air.
They are overnighting the stud and perhaps tomorrow we can "get er done."
