engine break in question
:confused: When breaking the engine in ,is it alright to leave the tailshaft out of a 3 speed manual transmission?The concern is that the the transmission could jump in gear and launch the truck,the truck is in tight quarters ,so even a 3 foot leap forward would be catastrophic.
The transmission would be in neutral with the clutch pedal not depressed.

I don't really see how a manual tranny is going to jump in gear by itself, Shawn. Neutral with a wheel chock will be fine.

If you want to run it with no driveshaft, just put a yoke in the tailstock. It'll stay there long enough with nothing holding it.
If by "breaking in" you mean burnishing a new cam and lifters, that only takes a few minutes. Most of the break-in period is better done on the road, under varying loads.

20 minutes garage time for a break in and then shes ready for the road.... after a quick oil change and a cool down

Yeah I guess I am just getting sketchy here at the last!!!:LOL: I have not adjusted the transmission linkage yet and was scared .......but if its in nuetral I think it may stay there like Dave said.I guess I will just install the drive shaft and get up my courage and fire it!!!!!
Yes this is for cam break in.....I just need to weld the exaust up today and install the drive shaft ,then fire it up...:3dSMILE:

hahaha yeah... its better to make sure everything is right 10x instead of just shootin and seeing.... i've done that a few times when i first started working on cars and very much so regretted it..... i've blown a couple engines in break in due to not installing the tranny right or forgetting to put the oil filter on....
