Am I building this 383 correct ?

I`m building a 383 for street use only. I want all low end torque and I want it to really thump. This is the plan so far. 3800# car, 3:73 gears, 700R4 trans and 2800 stall. 383 c.i. w/ 5.7 rods, E-tek 170 alum. heads w/ 1.60 - 2.02 valves, air gap intake and race deamon 650. Cam to be hyd. roller w/ 228@50, 525 lift ( w/ 1.6 roller rockers ) and 106 cl. 1 5/8" headers into 2 1/2" flowmasters w/ crossover. As a street toy, I want the thump for sound effects and from the light, when the loud pedal goes down, I want everyone way back in their seats. I was told that the 170 heads and the 650 is best for low end as well as the duration on the cam. I hope the 106 cl will give me the thump. What do ya think?

if you are gonna run a 2800 torque converter, better plan to NOT drive it in the rain.

I didn't have any problems with mine on the street with a 2800 stall. Even pullin' a pop up camper all over the country.

You don't say what the comp. ratio is.
To run a cam like that you will need more than 9 to 1 for a comp. ratio.
Everything looks well matched.

I thought that I had it all down but to clairify, the comp. will be 10.0. As for the 2800 stall, I feel that it will help to launch this heavy car. One last thing I forgot. What do you think about an aluminum driveshaft over the steel ones.

I looked into an aluminum drive shaft and didn't think the extra cost justified it. Other opinions may vary.

I don't think you need an alum. driveshaft for a 475 hp street car.

A steel driveshaft it is. Thanks for the info. The one thing I gotta say about the last post with the chevy talk link, WOW. It took me over an hour to go thru all the good stuff. Never seen a link with so much good info in one place before. Thanks again, Doug
