I can't find the post, but recently someone wanted to know why the cam grinders grind in some advance when they manufacture a cam. I just tripped over the answer while surfing the Isky site:

"most of our camshafts are ground from one to two cam degrees advanced to allow for eventual stretch in the timing chain."
