Here's what I got and here what I want to do.

I have a 86 K10 that I removed the gm 350 crate motor out of and replaced with a rebuilt 305 from another truck. Yes I know that sounds very stupid but the crate motor needed valve seals or rings and the 305 was a fresh rebuild. I want to take the 350 and refresh it and put on some heads, cam, intake, carb, and headders and put it back in the truck. I want something that has a good bit of torque and h.p.? This will be a daliy driver also so I would like to keep it around 8 miles a gallon:LOL: What heads would be a good choice? The quadrajunk that is on it is a pretty good carb so can I keep it or what would you replace it with. This will be a low budget build with used parts from the internet. I can run a pretty big cam since the truck is a 4 speed.

I had an 85 K10 with a four speed that I junked the 305 and installed
a Vortec engine assembly with a Edelbrock 2116 and a quadrajet
done by Jet. We installed Edelbrock headers and kept the smog pump. The result was very good.....the thing almost zeroed the emissions test plus it
got 10+ in town and 12+ on the road with 3.73 gears and 31 inch tires.
A K10 has too much rotational inertia to ever be a drag racer....especially if it has the granny low 4 speed. However, it can be peppy.

I don't want it to be a drag racer but make it where it will get out of its own way. It has 35's and a 4" lift so it is never going to be really fast. I figured add some vortec heads, intake, cam, and headders and it should run all right.

KB106 + 0.020" pistons, 10.2:1 w/64 cc heads (Vortec heads prefer a flat-top piston), Scoggin-Dickey SD8060AKIT upgraded Vortec L31 kit includes heads with spring/retainer upgrade for 0.525" lift, Edelbrock Performer intake (will accept Q-jet which I would rebuild and re-use if it were me), head gaskets, head bolts, stamped rail rockers (cheapest and best way to go with Vortecs), 12-point intake bolts. Compcams XE268H cam, 224*/230* @ 0.050" tappet lift, 0.477"/0.480" theoretical valve lift. Makes power from 1,600 to 5,800 and will work well with the 10.2 static compression ratio. Cut block decks for 0.035" to 0.040" piston to head clearance with piston at TDC using the supplied head gasket in the kit. Keep total timing at 32-34 degrees. These are fast-burn combustion chambers and will not need the normal 36*. The close piston-head clearance will allow you to run pump gas at 10.2:1 static c.r. This combo should make right at 400 hp and 400 ft./lbs of torque.

Thanks looks like a good setup, but I don't think my funds will support that. I missed a deal on a complete 98 vortec 350 for a hundred bucks a while back. I wish I could have bought it and got the heads off it.
