I had it in a 1987 montecarlo ss. I ran the motor only about a week or so when i
baught it. For several reasons got side tract did other things married etc. .
Yanked the motor out after beating my wifes causin on a 80 modle mustang and he had a stroker etc. . Sounded loud took him about two car lanes on the street ,since then yanked the engine out and sat in guarage for a long time. In that time frame had tooken the heads off and sent to get machined port and polished by hand i asume. My firts son was born then everything was put on hold and the mc i had was starting to be a rust bucket, so i even got more dissapointed and kind of gave up a little. This year i just happened to run into a young kid selling his uncles car on auto trader. The car wasnt what it looked like in the ads but the body was clean so i baught it, now im craving for a beast under the hood.
Ive read a couple of post here before i posted this and a great post on adjusting the rockers before installing the engine that was a great post. There were several methods to use. My question to the pros out here.
How much more hp can i achieve with a good cam? I have had the heads port and polished. I also have the required fuel pump and carb ( required from gm) headers etc.. I want a chopy sound so that it can sound like whats under the hood hp wise. I want my car sound like the gone in 60 seconds shelby, its exaclty what im looking for. The sound and the performance etc. lol. What cam would yall recomend. what hp will it produce. GM offers the hot cam i mentioned above giving me 425hp without touching the bottom end.
This engine will be backed up with a 6spd tranny and i believe a 456 gear need to double check.
Well gave yall as much information as i could, except carb and fuel pump ill dig those up in the garuage.
I dont want a 9 sec car etc. I want a daily driver with a chopy cam sound,oh and one more thing im thinking of putting an x pipe exhaust. I had true dual exhaust on before. Will the x pipe give me more of a shopy sound etc... ???????? i have so many ???? to ask the pros im a rookie at this, thanks in advance to everyone reading this far and anyone that helps in replys
p.s hope this is better understanding (i road the short bus)Last edited by junior2; 12-15-2006 at 05:27 PM.
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
