Tri-Y Headers?
Hey there, I was just curious. Has anyone used a pair of Doug Thorley's Tri-Y Headers? I know that for my Nova, I need the D-375Ys. I was just wondering if anyone could comment on the quality, fitment, etc of these.
They worth the price? I know they only come in a 2.5" collector for my car, but the flow pretty well right?
What do they sound like open header? I got a pair of cutouts layin' around :3dSMILE:

I don't have any recent experience with them, but twenty years ago, they were a decent item. I put a set of the chrome plated ones on my '79 Suburban 4X in '84 - 400/T400 - they fit and worked well in that application.

I've ran tri-y's on a bunch of high revvin' skinny block Fords, they sound great and work even better...... Only thing we ever found more (dyno) horsepower with on a high rpm engine was a set of Jere Stahl step headers.... To qualify this though, I haven't played header and dyno games for about 10 years so maybe the new headers work better, don't know. Not sure what the tri-y's do on a bigger engine, here I'm assuming you are running a 350?????

the doug thorleys are great headers, i've got a set on my mustang and love em...they used to be sold just as Doug's Headers but he went through a nasty divorce and his wife got the rights to his buisness so he had to start over again with a new name.... but they're still just as good if not better than the old ones ....they aren't the cheapest headers out there though... i believe i paid $400 for nickel plated and ceramic coated and thats with being a buddy of Ed Hansen (personal friend of Doug Thorley and also an exhaust engineer with a nice shop)

they may fit better than many sets .just the way there made you may have more room with them .i made a set for may 50 chevy 2 1/8 and step them to 2 3/8 . when done i drove it to get a EX this was before i did EX work. it was loud loud LOUD MY EARS ARE STILL RINGING. the car headers has the same frame as yours it has a sub clip still have them on the car . they work i did pick up a couple of tenths at the track when i had the small engine in it

I have been curious to try the new design by Thrush, it incorporates a scavenging tube and is supposed to do ( nearly ) the same job as a tri-y without the cost and headache.
As for how tri-y s sound open headder..

Used try y's on the street a while ago, even though they were not doug thorley's the design really woke the engine up, did a real good job of it in the mid range, you could feel that V8 pull.
:) And as a bonus they gave that REAL deep V8 sound :D

That type of set up is better than equall lenght headers.
