i dont know any shops in bay area.... but its pretty simple.... LS1 will use same kit as a 350 does to put it into a 56 chevy.... if you're going to keep it fuel injected then you will have to get a computer modified to not require everything the donor car has... you want it to only need the basics required to run the motor....just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

street and performace specializes in late model engines in old cars...especially LSx in a tri 5...they can answer a lot of your questions and provide all the parts and computer reprogramming you will need.'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

the website for S&P is: http://www.hotrodlane.cc/
they are located in Arkansas...so they probably would be too far to do work for you, but if you give them a call they will send you a free catelog. they also sent me a dvd all about the LT1 (in my case) tips and tricks to know when putting one in an older car.
an ls1 should go right in with a set of SBC mounts. i don't know about the tranny...most use the a 4l60e auto or t56 manual, but I don't know which others match up. if you look around their website they have install layouts you can look through to get an idea.'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
