350/330 TDC/Harmonic Balancer question
Hi All - Installing a 350/330 crate SBC in a '46 Ford - Vortec heads - how do I find exact TDC? Seems with the angle of the plugs I wouldn't be able to use any type of depth guage to feel the piston reach TDC. I could probably rely on the Harmonic balancer timing marks but I purchased that separately and they sent me a Mr Gasket Timing tab that covers all the marks. Either the balancer is the wrong one or the timing tab is. Any Ideas?
Many Thanks, Charlyg

hi. you can take the spark plug out of yhr engine (the easiest one) and put in a long thin rod or screw driver and turn the crank back and forth untill you have the engine at the very top as close as you can get it .(not the most perfect way-but close) and then you can mark the crank to 0 and that should help you. if you have a engine that needs to be closer then you will have to find another way out. daveWRENCHD

full the plug pull method, but add leaving your plug connected to the wire, and leave your ignition on... and when you turn your motor your plug will spark at whatever timing its set at.... i dont know chevy spec by memory though, i'm a ford guyjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day
