Intake Water inlet question from a newbie

I was told that my SBC Crate engine uses the Vortec heads. I see that there are three water ports on each head, but all of the Edelbrock Vortec intakes I have seen don't use all 6 of the inlets.

Is that normal? One, the EDL-2116, only has two of the inlets open. Another I saw only has four open. I'm still learning about engines, so maybe it is supposed to be that way? I can;t find a photo of the bottome of teh EDL-7116, but I think it only has 4 of the ports open, too.

Some of the things that the previous owner said about the car were wrong (and he put a regular intake on these Vortec heads) so I wonder how to tell if this is really a Vortec crate engine. Anyone know how to tell?

hello saxman. if you get the #'s off the engine(the frt pad just below the head) and the casting #'s off the back of the engine then i'm sure that some one will be able to id the engine for you, the other way that you can see if it's a vortex is to look at the intake and exhaust ports, the vortex will be much longer then the standard engine, the standard engine is almost square as you look at them. but that won't tell you about the block, just the heads. also you can look at the valley under the intake and see if it's a rollor cam, it'll have a spidery looking thing that bolts to the center of the engine and goes around the lifters to hold them straight.
