355 to 383
OKay I found a nice 355 for sale and I am looking into building a nice 383 for my cutty, what steps would i need to take in order to convert a 355 into a 383? I also found a vortec 350 with rod knock out of a 96 chevy for dirt cheap, less than 200, would you recommend starting with the ceap 350 or buying the 355 for 3x's as much?

I'd go for the newer block. And the knock won't make a bit of difference if you plan to by a 3.75 inch rotating assembly to build your 383. With the newer block, you can run a hydraulic roller cam and the block can easily be bored .030 over if need be.

If you use your 30 over block it will end up a 388 not a 383
