getting more HP out of 4 bolt main 350

i am building a 1978 chevy k5 blazer with 3/4 ton axels under it and i need a strong motor with lots of HP cuz it will be a hooking truck and i will pull it to the sled i got all the gears in axels i just need the HP from motor i just got my hands on a 4 bolt main and i was wondering what kinda cam i should buy intake if i shoud bore it anything to give around 400 hp that is what al of my buddys say is a good ratio i dont need a motor that is going to run 9 on the strip just a motor with lots of torch anything will help thank you Bryan

So you want a torque monster motor, that produces hp down low.Now when you say you have got your hands on a 4 bolt main motor, do you mean just the bare block or a complete engine ? Does the block need a rebore ? size of the block bore now ?

How much mechanical knowledge have you got ? Not knocking you, just there are a number of options some are harder to do than others if you plan to do it all yourself. Because everything from the carburetor to the pistons, head type and cam MUST work together.

And the number one question: How much money do you have to spend?

Horsepower doesn't pull the sled, torque does. Build a stroker motor, the bigger the better..... And bring a big checkbook to the party!!!!

Yup combo 42 definitely fills the bill, plenty of torque down low and you dont have to rev it to the moon to make power. If you have the money, this is probably your best shot. It will work if put together right. Just pay attention to your machining and clearances. I am building up a 383 myself with a real BIG cam.... but this combo looks like it's for you.

No I haven't. Apparently this Ryan fellow just went through magazine after magazine and gathered up dyno tests that were done and published by the magazines. Anyone could do the same thing given the time and effort. I nominate you. :LOL:
