Yes, you have to unbolt the engine mounts and jack the motor up so the pan will clear the crank when you slide it out.

If the pickup is loose.. you're going to have to have it welded to the pump; that pickup is NOT supposed to move.
Most guys try to get the pump in the oil.:confused:
