i need to know the weight of a 400 long block
Well, a sbc weighs about 575 complete, so maybe 450?
Don
No Denny, I might be wrong, but that 575 weight is for a complete engine. If you take of everything but the block and heads it should be about 125 lighter (a guess). I order the replacement long blocks at work for marine repowers, and on a pallet the long block comes in at 525, including the pallet and crate.
The website is a little confusing because he includes both complete and longblocks in the chart, but doesn't really specify which is which.
Don
A long block is a short block with heads installed. No intake, carb, exhaust manifolds, distributor, pulleys, accessories, flywheel or flexplate, etc. A short block is the block with crank , pistons, rods, cam, timing chain, oil pump and maybe a pan
There is no denying you really know your stuff, and I think you and I are saying the same thing, only calling it a different name? But in all things mechanical, I always defer to your opinion, because I have come to respect it.
Don
Yeah, I knew that you and I were coming from pretty much the same place, and like I said, your knowledge is always impressive.
Don
I have just one question. Why does he want to know the weight of a long block and he also want's to know about the 624 cylinder heads?Am I reading to much into this?Quote:

He started talking about weight so I start thinking he is trying to figure out what front springs he is going to order for his drag car.Quote:

I did not see that one coming.
You mean the box for hauling around the 624 heads in the back of his truck?Quote:
