Okay guys, I need help. '63 Impala - 283 2bbl. - 4 speed - been in storage
5 - 6 years. Within the last two weeks I have put on new exhaust front to back, plugs, points, condenser, cap, rotor, wires, etc. Rebuilt the carb, new starter, new battery, and probably some other stuff that I forgot. My problem is this; when idling, it sounds great, like it will run strong. However, when I get on the road, it feels like it's holding back, kinda like the exhaust is plugged up. I have made sure the dwell is set properly, but the timing seems to be out of wack. When I set it 4 degrees BTDC, it bogs down at an idle. If I turn the distributor until it runs better, the mark is way off, pointing straight up! Could the distributor be a tooth off? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
