Earson gear drive/after market aluminom cover

Just bought a 350 with an Erson gear drive and noticed the aluminom cover had been damaged. No visual evidence of the gears being damaged though. I bought a similar gear dirve on E-bay brand new about half the cost of the Erson brand and only needed the cover. Dont want to replace the gear drive asembly but will replace the cover.Does any one now if theres a difference in the gear drive cover. The overs for a Erson,Molodin and the after market which is made in taiwan look very similar.

You may not get a lot of input on this forum concerning a gear drive. Most of the old guys on here have used them at one time or another and have determined that they are pretty much useless. You can make more horsepower with a chain while producing less harmonics and the damned things are noisy. Us old guys don't care for a lot of useless noise.

i'm only 21 and i took my gear drive out, after having headstuds pull out relating to all the extra harmonics the gear drive was causing... a double roller would actually suit you better, you'd be a lot happier with it in the long run

Well I'm just gonna leav it for now and fire the motor and I can always change it later. You have a good point in which I did not now about.

yup.... from what i've heard from an engineer that builds race car motors, the vibrations and harmonics caused by gear drives are so bad, that there is no point to even have a balanced rolling assembly
