Just how much can my 2 bolt 350 hack? Nitrous?

I am building a 383 on a budget and am putting an Eagle street/strip stroker kit with i beam rods and forged srp pistons. The 1974 350 block is a 2 bolt main that will be pulling about 440 HP and 480 ft/lb of torque. It will be mainly a hot street engine with a few trips to the track a month. My question is, will the 2 bolt block hold up to this power? The street/strip kit is rated at 500 hp and can take up to 175 shot of nitrous. I was thinkin maybe 100 shot later. I know a 4 bolt would be the best choice but im buildin with what i have. I most likely will run milodon main caps with ARP main studs. Can the 2 bolt hold up or will i be in for a disaster? I'd be more concerned with the crank. Is it a cast or a forged piece? I'm certainly not an expert on nitrous or chebbies, but I would hold off on the big shot of nitrous, and stay with the 100 horse. Make sure you are getting a big shot of fuel with the nitrous or you will have a gernade waiting to blow.....

As Don said,I'd worry more about the crank than the mains. Actually a two bolt cap has more meat surrounding the bearing. If you are going to use milodon caps,why not drill and tap for splayed 4 bolts? Hank

the crank is a cast nodular eagle crank. Like i said, the rating on the stoker kit is 500hp and 175 shot nitrous, so the crank should hold up fine. I just dont know the rating of the 2 bolts. Has anyone had a 2 bolt main cap break on them? or should i be more concerned with the rods etc..?

it will hold a 175 shot if every thing is correct . fuel and correct timing is a must ! spry it it will hold .

It will probably hold, but my experience has been not to go more than 550hp on a 2-bolt block. You will certainly be on the ragged edge with the 175 shot. Stick with 100 IMHO.

That 100 shot would put your Nova solidly into the 10's. I doubt you want much more than that. If you run it at the strip, you will have to have a roll cage for anything under 11.49 That is the magic number, and your engine with no nitrous should give you close to that.

Thanks! I was hopin it would hold the shot. Being that this will be mostly a street engine, im pretty sure i will have no problems. the only thing i gotta do now is beef up my M20 transmission cuz i KNOW it wont hold to 600 ft/lb with sticky tires!!

I ran a 2 bolt block in my mod last year. 585HP and 8000 RPM's. I got a little piece of mind using some ARP studs, but it held up just fine. Still using that block by the way, its just semi retired into a 450 HP stock car. The new motor is splayed. not all that expensive really.

wow that gives ME piece of mind with my build. My 383 probably wont need to rev any higher than 6500rpm for the powerband im aimin for. Thanx!

one other note on that particular 2 bolt. It is currently a 383 using an Eagle cast crank, Eagle SIR rods, and Mahle forged pistons. This is the first Eagle Cast crank i have ever ran. I have to admit, i am quite impressed with how good this Eagle cast crank is doing. I just looked over what you are going to put in for a rotating assembly. That should make a fine motor. I would recomend putting a Race Balance on it though. @ 7000 rpm's My 383 doesnt even feel like its reving.
