that cam works well with a dual plane manifold. Stock converter should be ok. I have ran that before with stock converter, and a performer intake. Makes good low RPM torque.
im in a bind. i want to keep the stock converter in the car but i want to upgrade on the camshaft i want to make sure i have enough compression
83 camaro
342 gears
350 turbo
87 350 block standard bore
8.5:1 pistons
.015 head gaskets[should give approx 8.9:1 compression
76cc heads [stock] 194 intake valves]
the car may see 500 miles a year [very limited street]
jegs recomends 270 magnum
i have xe 268 but im concerned with compression
i was just wondering anybody put a cam in something like i have and what did you use,and did it work well?
no computer no emmisions on this car
can anyone help me in choosing the right cam?**)
voodoo 60101 or 60102 wich would be better in my application
Glen;
I just put together a '84 305 z-28 mtr with that cam. I have 58cc heads with 1.94/1.5 valves. Flat top pistons, EPS manifold & 600 carb. I went with a 2400 torque converter and glad I did. It would be a pain to drive with a tighter converter. If you're running a 350, it won't be as bad. The cam instructions say to run this cam with 9.5 or higher compression.

I ran the magnum 270 in my 86 silverado last year with 3.73 gears, 700 r4 tranny and a stock convertor and it ran perfect in my opinion, I used a performer intake and a 600 edelbrock carb, it originally had 76 cc heads with -12 cc dish pistons but I needed more compression so I switched the heads to some 305 ho heads that were ported and polished and it pushed my compression to 10.3 to 1 , that really woke that cam up, it would pull hard from idle to about 5800. I wouldn't advise running that high of compression though, I'm just lucky it didn't detonate with compresion like that with a cast head, guess I did something right, the guy I sold it to says he's never had anything with that much power and torque that was so easy to drive.
