Problem with 90 5.7 liter bogging

I have a problem with a converted 5.7 liter out of a 90 1/2 ton Suburban. This motor is a reman from Advance Auto Parts. It has 12,000 miles on it. I converted it from a TBI to a carburetor. I had to change the intake. I used a Professional Products Air Gap copycat intake and a 600 Edelbrock with electric choke. My problem is with this combo I have to run 25-30 degrees before top dead center to get power and shifts that don't lag. This motor is in a 73 3/4 ton chevy pickup with a 14 bolt FF rear with I think 4:56 gears. Can anybody solve my bogging problem at less timing advance? I don't know if its the fuel injection heads, running too much fuel, or another problem. This intake and carb combo ran great on the 350 that was originally in the 73 pickup.

Found the problem, DO NOT BUY ADVANCE AUTO PARTS REMAN MOTORS. Took the heads off and checked the numbers. It seems they installed one head off a 305 and one head off a 350. The valves were different sizes and I'm pretty sure the springs are too. You'd figure for about 1300 you would have some kind of gaurantee that the long block would be ok just to put in and run and not have to be torn down and checked.

At work we have set a firm policy.............we will not install ANY reman engine, even if the customer insists. Even the good ones, like Jasper, have a very high failure rate, right out of the box.

With the Goodwrench engines (brand new) going for about the same money you paid Advance for a reman, it doesn't make sense not to go the new route.

I'd contact Advance Corporate office and try to get a refund, even after the 12,000 miles.
