Flared piston rings
I have rebuilt several motors but have never seen this before. When I pulled the pistons out I found all of the rings flared out on the edges, otherwords the edges that contact the cylinder walls are almost twice as wide as the part of the ring that fits inside the piston. The motor is a .030 rebuilt,so I am guessing that the rings were either to big for the bore and they ground the gaps to make them fit or the rings and hone didn't match well Anyone ever see this or have an explanation?Hey has that thing gotta Heme in it? No, it's a shevy not heme!

I remember 40+ years ago you could buy oversized rings for use in(with) standard pistons. 30 over rings with standard pistons. Never tried them but they were around.Charlie
