Cam?
You are in almost the same situation as I am. 389sbc, 64cc vortecs, 9.1:1, currently running the GM "lukewarm" cam, 218-228 on a 112. Idles nice but lays down @ 46-4800rpms. As I'm going through the traps @ 5000, I'm a sitting duck for the "pros" at my local brackets. I'm seriously considering having a custom hyd. roller made with the following specs: 230-236, .510-.520, 108LSA on a 108 centerline. I figure the extra 12 degrees should carry the curve just enough, with good power production, and a rough but acceptable idle. BTW, although I'm no genius, I do know that the companies will steer you toward a cam with too wide a LSA "for street manners". This will cost you considerable torque below 3500. You posted that you didn't mind a rough idle so why give up power? Just don't go nuts with the duration."It may be ugly, but it's SLOW!"
