please help with 302
Alright I have a 283 crank out of a 66 impala, is it possible to put it in a 350 block?? If so do you use the same 5.7" piston rods and are the piston length from wrist pin to top longer? And from the crankshaft year I believe it is a small journal can I get an oversized bearing to compensate for the 350 block?
Thanks jake_willy

I have contemplated doing the very same thing with in the past month, can't find bearing spacers for this set up.Does anyone sell them??? Rod length is 5.7 but I think you would have to use the 302 piston and then measure quench area in case that decking would be needed,as there are differences in every block, though minute.302 pistons on e-bay are sometimes 'iffy' but some of the piston mfr's.do sell them new, though expensive! Conclusion I came to but havn't went thru with was when a local machine shop offered me a 327 block for $200.But then I took my 283 apart and saw that I had a cast crank(even though Mortec says it's forged,it's cast) so I don't think I'll do it.Good luck finding spacers,I heard they exist but I can't locate them?

what do you mean by "iffy" what should I look for - thanks for the help

It's best to start with a small journal 327 block to eliminate the need for crank spacers.

Wonder if your machine shop could metal spray the crank up to the large journal diameter?

Childs & Albert part number MBS-327-350 puts small journal 283/327 crank in 350 block.

By 'iffy' I mean 'suspect',maybe damaged.2 weeks ago a buyer on there showed pic's of a set of pistons he bought off a seller that said they were in good shape and the pic.showed definate damage.
Techinspector1 has made us 'happy campers' and if the 377 guys use spacers and push enormous HP then we should be ok.

just find a sm. jorunal block.

As suggested it is a lot simpler to use an small journal 327 block.
TRW used to make those spacers, but I haven't checked in a long time. I did just see that Jeg's is selling 350 crank to 400 block spacers. Maybe they could guide you if the Childs & Albert thing doesn't turn out.
