I have a 67 chevelle w/ the original 283. It has been rebuilt once and bored .030 over. It has the original heads on it and I would like to change the heads out. My question is, what heads should I get, keeping in mind I would like to keep it cheap. I have done some research on here and it seems like a 305 truck head is that way to go. I was thinking of get a set on ebay or somewhere else for cheap, then getting a rebuild kit and fix them up. Any opinions on this?
I would buy a set of Dart Iron Eagle,World S/R Torquer or Pro Topline Torker heads.If you are carefull you should be able to pick up either the Dart or the Protopline head for less than $600.I would try and keep the port volume less than 170 cc.Also I would try and run the 1.94/1.50 valves.The bigest problem with stock heads is it does not take long to sink over $300 in heads that might be 30+ years old and don't flow as well as the new heads and are also much more prone to cracks.
