another cam question

350 chevy completely stock on the bottom end ecept high volume pump and kb 9.1
stock cylinder heads 1.94 valves 1.5 exaust just cleaned up 76cc
performer rpm intake
650 double pump
gm distributor high voltage coil
83 z28 350 turbo
373 gears
considering rhoads lifters
no computer no emissions
what duration cam shaft would you guys use?i already know what the cam companies recomend.... but i keep getting different answers. so im asking someone who has possibly has had a motor like mine,to tell me what worked for them.? i like 110 lobe seperation,im willing to purchase a converter if nessasary,and i like a noticable idle the car only comes out in the summer on weekends so drivability is not a real issue.i have the extreme energy 268 and its not what i was looking for. i know its not 500 horse but its what i got, so if anyone can give me suggestion i can make comparrisons thanks.

buy the cam for what you are using the vehicle for, not for the sound, getting a cam that dosen't come in until 2,800 RPM dosen't make sense in a non race car, your not building it for high RPM are you. your best bet is to tell the cam company what you will be using the car for, not that you want a noticible idle or anything, tell them your comp ratio and have them send you a cam matched to what you need, they make the cams, they'll know what is best.

get a cam made for actual streetable use, and get a good flowmaster exhaust... it'll sound nice with a low idle still... and it'll able to be driven on the street

That 268 cam should be perfect,just took delivery on one. If you go to comp cams site you will see that it made the most hp out of a stock headed sb. I'm bummed that yours doesnt sound that healthy,mine wont either!

I'm curious. What dont you like about the XE268H cam?

I'm not a SBC guy at all, but it would seem to me that the heads are the limiting factor on the horsepower..... There's a lot of power increase to be found in the right set of heads on a motor, the cam can't produce anymore power then the heads will allow.....

richardquattro....the power band of the cam . and the sound not to mention it always sounds like you need to adjust the valves verry noisy camshaft and i expected more lope. when i would punch it it seemed like you could feel it stop pulling.. ive had cams were i could keep on reving to the shift point not the extreme energy 268 you can actually feel it stop pulling....heres a delema for you . i called jegs gave them all my info
they recomend the 268
crane recomends a 212 450 114ls
summit recomends the 274 extreme
comp recomends the 286 magnum
i bet i call back today ill get more different answers so what do i do buy them all and find out what works the best? i dont think so
dave can you help me i realize the heads are not the best in the world but this is the combo im staying with what would you recomend from my previos post

UPDATE..... lunati just sent me a cam recomendation....60104lk the voodoo 276-284-504-525 but i dont want to go over 500 lift

Glenn you are going to have to decide what you want -sound or performance. Have you considered the lunatti street master cams? they are a 106 degree cam that has a great sound with results-- part no 07101 Did you look up the comp cams web site?
Their "articles coverage" of Super mouse showed the 268 to be the best several times over.:)

comp cam 280h magnum worked so good for me i used it in 3 daily drivers with no problem all stock sb with headers intake a
9/1 compresion it pulled good from heavy foot to 5800 in my cars

Your wanting what your combo can't give you. You want a race engine sound and performance from a stock set-up combo.
Just turn the carb screws out another turn and let it load up at the lights.

listen to denny here is absolutely right for ive used the 270 comp in a sbc 350 and it had a noticeable rough idle and decent power but i had 2.02 heads and porting done.

Im going with the lunati 07101 i been told to stay between 220 and 230 @.050
this cam has 225 i thank everyone for there input and sorry im so stubburn but the more i think about it lets get back to reality i want power not sound ive had sound and the car wouldnt pull for you know what . i just ask if this cam is good for my combo?

if you can get better heads i would.
