A flooding motor will cause the conv. to turn red also. raw gas will stand in the conv. and burn. you should be able to tell that though, because it would be running rich with black smoke coming out of the tail pipe, where if it was lean it wouldn't have the smoke. ford was bad about that. lean will do it also.
