Carbon Black Spark Plugs
327 small block engine in 68 chevy pick-up truck. All 8 plugs fouled out and had carbon black inbedted on them. Evan the treads were black. No wet oil, just the deep carbon black. What are some possible causes and remetys you might know of. Thanks, John.

take your carb off and check your float and replace ti if it feels heavy, or just replace it and be done. aquick way to check the float to see if it is high is to take the top off the carb and let the float hang down, then lift the float up just enough so it rests on the seat and at that point see how level the float is in relation to the gasket area flange or the flat area SHOULD BE ALLMOST LEVEL. but reset the float to spec's and replace the needle and seat good luck wrenchd

All the above,,,in otherwords, either to much fuel, not enough air,or,I have seen restricted exhaust cause the same.
-
If they are all the same ? When was the last time you checked them? Might just be time for new ones.
-
i just rebuilt a 355 and i have black plugs to but not nearly as bad as u do. anybody know if this is normal
-
No its not normal. Another problem these days is our fuel. The reformulated gasoline we're using is harder to ignite.
-
well what do i got to do to fix it?
-
well i have everything hooked up and did everything right but i only got about 10 m. on it. and not sure about the comp.
-
well the timing is off a little bit but other than that itsa good
